Final design is underway for a $39M upgrade to convert Raintree Drive into a comprehensive traffic flow roadway from 87th Street to Scottsdale Road.
Right now, traffic moving through Scottsdale Airpark from Loop 101 to Scottsdale Road must do a little dance – a jig from Raintree to Hayden Road, a jog from Hayden to Redfield Road, and then the twist on Redfield, which swings into Thunderbird at the south end of the airpark runway.
Scottsdale is using Proposition 400 funds through Maricopa Association of Governments to create a direct connection from 87th Street on the east side of Loop 101 all the way through to Scottsdale Road. The project will take almost four years to complete once construction starts in fall 2016.
The project is behind its original schedule, which projected construction on the Thunderbird-Redfield segment completing final design this past summer and slated construction to be underway by this time of the year. AECOM Technical Services has the $14.1M design contract.
