Following a six-month site selection process, Benchmark Electronics has announced it will establish its new corporate headquarters in Tempe’s Rio 2100 office park.

In April, Benchmark announced it planned to relocate to Arizona from Texas. The design, engineering and manufacturing firm currently occupies an interim HQ space near Scottsdale and Indian School roads.

As part of the relocation, Benchmark expects to bring roughly 500 new jobs to the Phoenix area within the next five years.

According to announcements published by the City of Tempe and JLL, groundbreaking will take place before year end, with completion planned for early 2019. Rio 2100 is a 52-acre, Class A office park located at Loops 101 and 202 freeways. It is being developed by The Boyer Companies and Tellurian Development Company.

“Tempe is known as a destination for tech companies, such as Microsoft, Amazon, GoDaddy and now Benchmark,” Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell said. “We appreciate Benchmark’s investment in Tempe and the jobs they are bringing to our community.”

Benchmark’s facility “will house the corporate leadership team and key corporate functions in finance, human resources, legal, marketing, operations, and supply chain.  Benchmark’s Internet of Things, and RF and High-Speed Design Centers of Innovation will also transition to the new location,” the releases said.

“This is an exciting time for our company as we look forward to our new headquarters, which will allow us to grow in a single, cohesive location,” said Paul J. Tufano, president and CEO of Benchmark Electronics. “Rio 2100 is an ideal location to drive organizational alignment and attract and develop top-notch talent, as already evidenced in our strategic partnership with Arizona State University.”

The location’s proximity to ASU and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport was a consideration in its selection.

Benchmark was represented by JLL’s Andrew Medly, who also assisted in the site selection and lease negotiations. Tenant improvements will be managed by JLL’s Project Development Services Team. Boyer was represented by Bryan Taute, Sr. VP at CBRE.
