A proposal currently under review in Queen Creek would put a 26KSF assisted living facility at East Ocotillo Road and South 228th Street.
Owner Queen Creek Assisted Living, LLC has requested a Minor General Plan Amendment, a PAD/Rezone and approval of a Major Site Plan in order to proceed with the project. The site will also have to be annexed into the Town of Queen Creek.
Farm-Centric Assisted Living
As part of the Queen Creek Assisted Living Facility’s ambiance – and with a nod to the town’s farming heritage – the proposal includes outdoor space and accommodation for a range of animals residents can interact with and enjoy. The 20KSF pasture area will feature an occasionally rotating inventory of up to 12 horses, cows, goats, sheep and birds. To accommodate the pasture area, the owner has requested a 20-foot front landscape setback so as not to impact the building depth. Seating areas will be provided to more easily let residents and their guests enjoy both the pasture and landscape areas.
Other outdoor amenities will feature a community garden area where residents can grow vegetables and flowers, an orchard area with Bradford Pear trees, a rose garden, a cactus garden, and connecting trails and walkways.
In addition to the initially-planned rooms for up to 38 residents, the building’s interior will feature several different gathering areas to accommodate visitors. “This area removes the visitation event from the rooms where much of the medical apparatus exists and allows the families to gather in a home setting with comfortable furniture, books, games, and other home setting elements,” according to the submittal.
There also will be a central kitchen to manage residents’ meals and provide snacks and occasional meals for visitors. A staff of 10 daytime and four overnight caregivers will tend to residents’ personal and medical needs on a 24-hour basis.
Building design will be a single-story “H-shape” with a ranch theme with a sloped hip and gable roof. Walls will be mostly stucco but will include brick wainscot and Hardie board siding on the public face.
The design also will feature two large patio areas with columns. The public entrance, which serves as a focal point of the design, will be identified by a cupola over the north gable.
Queen Creek Assisted Living, LLC is the owner, represented by Iplan Consulting. BMA Architecture is the design firm. Landscape design is by Anderson Baron. General contractor and construction timeline information could not be confirmed by press time.
